Ideal Indian Fabric Collection For Your Wardrobe

The clothing of a region evolves gradually and continuously due to its climate, geography, and culture. The same is true of the rise and growth of a country's food habits, housing, and mutually dependent societal aspects like traditions, values, norms, and other practices. India is a diverse country, and it is only natural that an ideal Indian fabric collection will be as rich and varied as the country itself.

India's climate zones and topography change dramatically from north to south and west to east. So also the clothes that reflect thousands of years old traditions and culture, that range from vibrant colors to muted shades, breathtaking patterns to plain whites, and ravishing pashmina to humble linen.

The threads, the weave, and the prints come together to make Indian fabrics unique, and your wardrobe is not complete without attires fashioned from the signature fabrics of India.

Ideal Indian Fabric Collection By Material

Cotton

Natural, breathable, comfortable, and low-maintenance cotton is undoubtedly the king of all fabrics.

Linen

Linen is a hot weather favorite. It is durable and comfortable, and its quality only gets better wash after wash.

Silk

Indian festivals and rituals are bright and colorful, and the mesmerizing quality of silk adds glamour to every occasion. Raw silk, or Dupion silk, is heavy with little bumps. Being heavy and often richly embroidered, raw silk is a popular choice for bridal wear. Mulberry silk is the highest quality silk from silkworms fed exclusively on mulberry leaves. Mashru silk is an artisanal blend of silk and cotton; the luxurious Mashru has both the silken sheen and the calming comfort of cotton.

Chanderi

This glossy transparent fabric is a class apart. Chanderi employs a unique weaving technique, and it is of three categories: pure silk, silk cotton, and cotton.

Georgette

Festivities are incomplete without the sheer and delicate georgette that comes in a wide array of colours.

Chiffon

This fabric has a subdued luster, with simple low-density knit. Chiffon is tricky to work with because of its smooth texture, yet is highly preferred party wear, especially for skirts and sarees due to its dreamy drape and fall.

Weaving is how the vertical warp and horizontal weft threads come together to make textiles, like knitting, braiding, or crocheting. There are many types of weaves in India, and the Indian weaving loom is celebrated as much for its quality as for its rich patterns and designs.

The three major weaves are:

Plain

The most popular and basic of weave is plain because it is strong, durable, and easy. Rib and Basket are the two types of plain weave. Clothes made of plain woven cotton, linen, rayon, chiffon, silk, crepe, etc., are a part of every wardrobe.

Twill

It is a weave in which the lines run diagonally. Twill weaves are strong and thick and make good work clothes like denim, bed and bath linen, etc.

Sateen and Satin

These two weaves are similar and consist of floated warp and weft threads, resulting in smooth shimmery fabric. Satin fabrics are woven out of silk, polyester, nylon, etc.

Ideal Indian Fabric Collection By Print

Be it block-printed, resist-dyed, or tie-dyed, the breathtaking prints of Indian fabrics have been in demand in every corner of the world, for centuries. The nine must-have prints for your ideal Indian fabric collection are Kalamkari, Ajrakh, Dabu, Bagru, Ikat, Batik, Bandhani, Leheriya, and Bagh.
